Turn-by-turn navigation in Apple Maps has expanded its reach to one of Apple’s most important markets. Users in India can finally take advantage of the feature when driving or walking.
Apple has also added the ability to book a cab through Uber or Ola from within the Maps app.
With iPhone sales falling and Apple finding it increasingly difficult to grow in saturated markets like the U.S. and Europe, emerging markets like India and China have become key.
In fact, they’re so important that Apple just slashed the prices of its latest handsets in the latter — an unprecedented move for the company — in an effort to boost slowing sales.
Despite this, those markets still miss out on some of Apple’s most important features. One of them, turn-by-turn navigation in Maps, has finally made its way to India this week.
Use Apple Maps to navigate India
The update was reported by several users on Twitter, who were able to access turn-by-turn directions in Maps when walking or driving. The Next Web has also confirmed that it was able to use the feature on an iPhone XS in the capital of New Delhi.
In addition, users in India can also use Maps to book a cab through Uber or Ola. It will tell you when a ride is available and roughly how much it will cost, depending on the vehicle you choose.
Sadly, there is no public transport information just yet, and as users in other countries have learned to accept, Maps isn’t always accurate in India — as the tweet below demonstrates.
Apple Maps now has turn by turn in India as well. Except that this penis shaped path doesn't exist and Apple wants me to ride my Dio into an open sewer. pic.twitter.com/4fzQCFMLpO

Nevertheless, it’s great to see Maps is finally catching up in India. You should be able to take advantage of its new functionality on your iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch today.
