Fortnite’s latest content update is now rolling out across all platforms, bringing Battle Royale’s first vehicle, a new limited-time game mode, and the ability to view challenge progression during matches.
The version 4.3.0 release also (finally!) brings the ability to use voice chat on mobile.
Fortnite players can look forward to big content updates every week that add new things to keep the game feeling fresh. If we’re lucky, we also get new features that improve the gameplay experience. This week’s update brings plenty of both.
Fortnite Battle Royale gets its first vehicle
Perhaps the biggest addition in version 4.3.0 is Battle Royale’s first vehicle.
It’s not car or a motorcycle, but a shopping cart. You can push it along by yourself, then jump on the back to ride quickly downhill. You can also push a teammate, who can sit in the basket and shoot at nearby enemies.
One of the most-requested additions in this update is the ability to view challenge progress during a match. You’ll see an in-game overlay as you work towards completing each goal so that you don’t have to memorize everything before the start of a game.
For instance, if you need to get three kills with a pistol, a popup will appear every time you get a pistol kill to show you what you have left to do. Sadly, you still can’t see which challenges you have left to complete during a match.
Voice chat comes to mobile
In last week’s update, Epic added the ability to eat apples to top up your health. You can now eat mushrooms to top up your shield. Each one will grant you a 5 percent increase all the way up to 100, and they can be found in wooded or swampy areas.
Voice chat is finally available for mobile players on iOS, so you can speak to friends during duo and squad matches. You’ll need to activate it inside the sound settings. A push-to-talk option is also available.
Epic has also made a whole bunch of other optimizations and improvements. For the complete list, check out its patch notes on the Fortnite blog.
