Apple has introduced a live news section to its TV app for iOS and tvOS. It hosts a bunch of live feeds from a number of major news providers — but you’ll only see them if you live in the United States.
Apple confirmed it would be bringing live news to its TV app back in September, when it unveiled the Apple TV 4K. Now those running iOS 11.2.5 or tvOS 11.2.5 can tune in to live news channels from the likes of Bloomberg, CBS News, Cheddar, CNBC, CNN, and Fox News.
Enjoy live news on iOS and Apple TV
You can find live news feeds in the “Watch Now” tab, beneath featured channels for the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics. To enjoy them, you’ll need to have the associated third-party apps for each provider installed on tvOS.
Thumbnails for each channel are displayed with screenshots of popular newscasters. The channel’s logo is also present, along with a red icon that confirms a channel is “Live.” Selecting a channel will take you directly to the stream, or to the appropriate app in the App Store if it’s not yet installed.
News, unlike sports feeds, which were also confirmed back in September, doesn’t have a dedicated tab yet. But it’s likely Apple will add one later — perhaps when more providers are supported. Sadly, news is only available to users in the U.S. for now.
