Great smartphone video is all about capturing movement. But the majority of smartphone videos aren’t so great, especially when the recorded movement is from the shaky hands of the filmmaker.
The startup company InMotion has come up with a motorized slider to give your iPhone, GoPro or mirrorless camera videos smooth, fluid captures of moving subjects.
The InMotion Slider made its debut on Kickstarter today for an early bird backer price of $247.
While a universal camera mount that moves smoothly across the track is a handy accessory, the star of this slider maybe InMotion’s companion app, which includes a face-following feature that commands the automated slider to keep a moving subject in the frame.
The app also includes IR sensor motion triggering for subjects up to the 30 feet away, time-lapse and parallax modes and live streaming to social media. The InMotion Slider also boasts a battery life of five hours.
There are a number of motorized sliders for filmmakers on the market, but InMotion founder Slawek Potasz felt there were few motorized accessories specifically for smartphone filmmakers. Potasz set out to build a sophisticated device that was still easy to use and not heavy to carry.
“High-quality video content usually requires expensive, professional equipment,” Potasz said “(There’s) a rising number of amateur and pro filmmakers using their smartphones to create videos. InMotion’s mission is to take their footage to the next level…effortlessly.”
If all goes according to InMotion’s production schedule, sliders will ship in July. Once in stock, it will retail for more than $400.
InMotion’s Kickstarter page has a number of short videos showing off the slider’s various features. Below, is a video of Potasz demonstrating how the app and slider follow the face of a moving subject.
