Samsung is planning a new smartphone to tackle Apple’s massive iPhone 8 upgrade this fall.
The Galaxy Note 8 is expected to land as early as next month, but thanks to a “leak” from one of its own Twitter accounts, we don’t have to wait until then to get our first glimpse.
Samsung’s last Note device was a disaster. Thanks to multiple battery issues, the Galaxy Note 7 had a tendency to overheat and explode. After it was recalled for a second time and production was ceased, it was suggested Samsung would give up on the Note line altogether.
But that won’t happen just yet. Samsung is planning a Galaxy Note 8 for 2017, and rumor has it the device will make its official debut at an event in New York next month. The company will be keen to make it available as early as possible ahead of the iPhone 8 launch.
We were already expecting the Note 8 to look like a Galaxy S8, only larger. Now an image posted by the official @SamsungExynos account on Twitter to promote its latest Exynos 8895 chipset all but confirms that will be the case.

Samsung doesn’t say it’s a Note 8, obviously, but it has no other devices on the market right now that look like this. It’s essentially a cross between the Galaxy S8 and last year’s Note 7, with a curved, edge-to-edge display and incredibly thin bezels.
Like the Galaxy S8, it has no Samsung logo above its display because there simply isn’t room for one. It’s likely its physical button has also been removed in favor of that new pressure-sensitive button that sits beneath the Infinity Display.
Other features and specifications are likely to include iris scanning, a Quad HD or even 4K display, Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor, up to 6GB of RAM, wireless charging, water-resistance, and expandable storage.
It will, of course, also include an S Pen like its predecessors, and presumably a dedicated Bixby button so that users have instant access to Samsung’s new virtual assistant.
