Apple CEO Tim Cook warned MIT’s graduating class of the dangers society faces as a result of rapidly advancing technology during his commencement speech this morning.
Cook challenged the 2017 graduates to measure their impact on humanity on the lives they touch, rather than the likes you get on social media.
“There is so much out there conspiring to make you cynical,” said Cook. “The internet has enabled so much and empowered so many, but it can also be a place where basic rules of decency are suspended and pettiness and negativity thrive. Don’t let that noise knock you off course.”
Throughout the speech Tim Cook touched on the challenge he faced in finding his purpose in life. He says it wasn’t until he joined Apple when it was struggling right after Steve Jobs took over that he found his purpose.
Cook even managed to toss in a decent dad joke during the speech saying that during his 15 year search for meaning, he even experimented with (long pause) Windows PC. Obviously, that didn’t work.
