ESPN is rolling out its revamped Apple TV app today, with a fancy new interface and more on-demand content.
The new app shows a live-stream of one of ESPN’s networks when first launched, dropping you straight into the action — and it makes it easier to find your favorite content.
Simply named the ESPN App, the new service replaces WatchESPN on tvOS, and brings a new interface that’s easier to navigate with your Apple TV remote. It’s also “much more” than just a live-streaming app, ESPN says.
“From replays to full episodes of on-demand content prior to their telecast premieres, ESPN’s tvOS app is now so much more than our live streaming networks,” said Ryan Spoon, senior vice president of digital product, design and audience development, ESPN.
“With this latest update, authenticated users now have the full benefit of engaging with a wide range of live and on-demand video content from the very first click into what is now the ESPN App on Apple TV.”
When you first launch ESPN App, you’ll be greeted by a live-stream of one of ESPN’s networks that will begin playing automatically. If you don’t want to watch live content, you can enjoy a collection of curated, on-demand videos from 30 for 30, E:60, Outside the Lines, and more.
Today’s update drops ahead of the premiere of ESPN’s We the Fans, and eight-episode series that chronicles the lives of Chicago Bears season ticket holders in Soldier Field’s Section 250 during the 2016 season.
You’ll be able to enjoy the first four episodes exclusively through WatchESPN and the ESPN App for Apple TV on April 9 — two days before it airs on ESPN on TV.
