How big a fan of Hellboy are you?
If you answered, “Such a big fan that I wish ‘Hellboy’ were a language I could speak all the time — if only someone would make a keyboard to that effect,” you’re in luck because custom keyboard designer Swype has teamed up with publisher Dark Horse Comics to bring both Red and samurai rabbit Usagi Yojimbo to your iMessages.
“These products present a whole new way for fans to support and engage with their favorite Dark Horse characters, and we have high expectations for the program,” said Mark Bernardi, director of digital publishing for Dark Horse, in a press release. “Speaking personally as a superfan of both Usagi Yojimbo and Hellboy, I’m particularly thrilled that they are the first two brands to be launched.”
You can pick up keyboards for Hellboy, super-cute version Itty Bitty Hellboy, and Usagi Yojimbo keyboards in the App Store, where they’re selling for $1.99 apiece.
They’re called “emoji keyboards,” but they’re really neither. The Unicode Consortium, stewards of all that is tiny and pictorial on your iPhone, had no part in their creations. And the keyboards are really just a bunch of little pictures that you copy and paste into your messages, so they’re really more clipboards.
But hey, for two dollars, you can save yourself the Google search that lets you do exactly the same thing. And you can’t put a price on that kind of convenience.
Well, maybe you can’t, but Dark Horse and Swyft can. It’s two dollars.
Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners can also plunk down real money for virtual shirts for their Live Avatars, and those also have Hellboy on them.
So, hey. Thumbs up, everyone.
