Both iPhone 6s models could bring even sharper Retina displays

Apple is hoping for big things from its next-gen iPhone.

Apple’s next-generation iPhones may receive quite the resolution boost — with a new report coming out of China claiming that the forthcoming iPhone 6s handset will boast a Full HD display, while its larger sibling the iPhone 6s Plus will feature a dazzling 2K display.

If true, this would allow the iPhone to better compete against some of the high-end flagship Android handsets, which routinely offer 2K or “Quad HD” displays.

Currently the iPhone 6 has a resolution of 1334×750, and the iPhone 6 Plus boasts a Full HD resolution.

Although the difference between a Full HD and 2K display isn’t massive on a day-to-day basis, since the human eye can’t see the individual pixels, it is very noticeable when playing high-resolution video and other content — with a noticeably sharper image.

This rumor should be taken with a pinch of salt for now, but if true a 2K display makes a lot more sense as an exclusive for the larger iPhone 6s Plus than the previously-rumored Force Touch.

Other reports about the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus claim it will include Force Touch (for both devices), twice the RAM of its predecessors, a significant processor upgrade, 12MP camera, new rose-gold color option, sapphire display for the 6s Plus, strengthened shell, and improved Touch ID.

It is also likely that Apple will finally ditch the 16GB entry level models which have been grossly inadequate for some time now.

If all of this (or even most of it) comes to pass, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus really may turn out to be the biggest incremental iPhone “s” upgrade we’ve ever seen.

I hope not…. this is just a marketing bullet point for Android phones without any real benefit. The iPhone 6 Plus screen is already perfect. Once you can’t see pixels, there is no reason to tax the GPU to push around even more of them and at 401ppi, the 6Plus is well over that threshold. The regular 6 could get a bump to a similar pixel density, but it’s not necessary as pixels are pretty much invisible already at 326ppi. It’s just a waste of system resources without enough benefit. They should never bother going over the density of the 6Plus screen in general.

I did test that anyone can do – go to apple store and run video of both phones side by side. The video on iphone 6 was mushy and less sharp. Iphone 6 Plus was much sharper and clearer. That is why I got iphone 6 Plus. Apple is smart and does their own testing and if 2K is noticeably better than 1080p then they should add it.

I wouldn’t mind a higher res. I’m a pixel junkie and going from my HTC m8’s 450 PPI to iPhone 6’s 750p screen was jarring.

Isn’t full HD the same as 2K!? Do the math.

Yes but don’t tell them that. They like to throw out random K’s everywhere now!

The proper terminology is 1440p or qHD.

Actually, it is unlikely that Apple will finally ditch the 16GB entry level models.

I really hope these rumours are true. 750p and even 1080p is a bit lacking for a flagship.
