Apple poached talent from fashion brands leading up to the Apple Watch launch, but the tables turned this week as Donna Karan International revealed it has sniped some talent from the tech giant.
Hector Muelas, Apple’s creative director of worldwide communications, has been hired by Donna Karan as the fashion house’s chief image officer. While Muelas isn’t quite as big a name as Angela Ahrendts, he headed up marketing of the Apple Watch, so it’s a big win for DK.
As the chief image officer, Muelas will handle all areas of DK’s brand image, marketing and creative services. He’s also being tasked with overseeing digital platforms and e-commerce. The founders of the fashion brand Public School were also hired by Donna Karan to become the new creative directors of DKNY – the company’s younger, more affordable line.
Before his time at Apple, Muelas worked on advertising campaigns for companies like Nike, Coca-Cola, LEGO, Diageo and Nokia after serving as creative director at Vice.
