Apple really is making a giant iPad Pro, according to a new report from Bloomberg, but the Cupertino-based company is running into production issues that have delayed the long-rumored tablet’s release.
According to Bloomberg’s sources, production of the 12.9-inch iPad is now scheduled to start around September, after delays involving the supply of display panels pushed the project back.
Apple planned to release the iPad Pro this quarter, claims the report. The new iPad is part of Tim Cook’s effort to revitalize a lineup that has seen slumping sales over the past 12 months. iPads are facing tough competition not only from alternative Android tablets, but also from Apple’s own line of large-screen iPhones.
Rumors of an early 2015 iPad Pro launch first surfaced last year. Apple reportedly held back on the project to focus on the iPhone 6. The bigger-than-big tablet is expected to be aimed at enterprise users and take advantage of new software and hardware features designed to make the iPad a better work machine.
