Jeff Daniels is just finishing up his last season as Will McAvoy, but he could be reunited with The Newsroom creator Aaron Sorkin sooner than anyone anticipated, as Daniels is the top choice to play the role of former Apple CEO John Sculley in the upcoming Steve Jobs movie.
Daniels just won an Emmy for his role in The Newsroom on HBO, and multiple people familiar with Universal’s Steve Jobs project have told TheWrap that the studio wants to add him to the project that is set to star Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs.
Universal Pictures hasn’t officially offered Daniels the role yet, but he’s supposedly Danny Boyle’s top choice to play the Apple CEO who kicked Steve Jobs out of Apple and led the company from 1983 to 1993.
The Jobs project has been rife with problems since its inception. Multiple actors and directors have been attached since the script was finished last year, but production still hasn’t started. Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale both passed on the project earlier this year which made Sony give up on it altogether, allowing Universal to take the reigns.
Natalie Portman recently passed on the film too, but Seth Rogen is reportedly still set to co-star as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. The film will be broken into three acts, each taking place backstage before a big Apple event. Production is expected to begin this spring.
