Pad&Quill is at it again, this time with a low-profile rear-shell style case for the iPhone 5/S. While calling anything from Brian Holmes’s P&Q “minimal” would be a stretch, the Traveler Case gets pretty close. It is also gorgeous to look at, and would surely be just as lovely for the hands. It looks like the kind of case you couldn’t stop fingering.
The design is inspired by a coin pouch Brian’s dad picked up in Afghanistan during the war (not, not that war – it was the second world war). These are actually still pretty common in Europe. I would see old men and women, every day in my local Barcelona market, trying to count out Euro coins out of their little empanada-shaped coin purses after a lifetime of counting pesetas.
Brian’s phone version is parachute-stitched leather, with a 3M “clean release adhesive” pad to hold the iPhone in place. There’s a hole for the camera, and even a slot in the back that’’s actually a pocket for holding a couple of credit cards, or some ID, or your bus tickets.
Sadly there’s no space for coins, which would make the case useful in Europe as well as the U.S, but as iPhone wallet cases go this one looks to be up there at the top, in terms of small size as well as craftsmanship.
The case will cost you $80, currently for pre-order at $70. It comes in “onyx black” or “whiskey.”
