What do monsters, Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. series of chaotic fighting games, and steampunk have in common?
Category: iOS Games

Nothing, you guys. Absolutely nothing.
But those are all elements in Fright Fight, a new free-to-play, online-multiplayer brawler that has players controlling a variety of spooky monsters in fights to the death atop floating platforms. It’s chaotic, insane, and mostly fun.
It’s a Frankenstein’s Creature of disparate parts cobbled together, and the arcane force that brings it to lurching life is in-app purchases.
After a brief tutorial as the Werewolf, the game prompts you to pick your character. It warns you to choose carefully because you can’t un-choose, which immediately puts you into a weird spot. Do you pick the one character you’ve played or take your chances with the Vampire, Grim Reaper, or Yeti, none of whom you can possibly know if you’ll like?
Whatever you do, know this: Whichever characters you don’t choose will cost you $3.99 each. Or you can spend 24,000 in-game coins, and you can buy 22,000 of those coins for $7.99, so it’s a deal, really. And if you want double experience points, you can pay up to $9.99 for a month’s worth of buffage. Or you can buy one of the other available perks to help you win rounds.
IAPs. IAPs for days.
As for the game itself: It’s alright. You move by swiping on the left side of the screen and attack with taps on the right. You have combos and charge moves, and you can jump. And it works; it’s a pared-down Smash Bros. that offers all the insanity of those games.
And if all you want to do is control a werewolf and knock some vampires and Yetis around for a while, it’ll do that for you. Just know that it will ask you for money a lot.
Game Name: : Fright Fight The Good: Cool art style, frantic combat, and neat characters. The Bad: In-app purchases absolutely everywhere and some hit-detection issues. The Verdict: It’s a good game, but the constant IAPs sour the experience. Buy from: App Store – Fright Fight – zGames |
