Would you pay $100 for a cutting board with a few holes drilled in it? No? Are you sure? Because somebody certainly does. In fact, as of this writing, 349 people have ponied up between $68 and $98 to pre-order the Slate Mobile AirDesk on Kickstarter, a wooden laptop tray that lets you put your laptop on your lap. Like a sap.
I sometimes work with my MacBook Air on my lap, and when I do I reach for my own home-made lap desk, which cost me all of around €20 (or something like that. All I can remember is that it was cheap). But if you want something thicker, thus causing your wrists to be bent at a slightly steep angle, and to have some holes in the tray to, I don’t know, make it cooler so you can sit working in an ergonomically terrible position for even longer, then go ahead. There’s even a slot to prop up your iPhone so you don’t even need to get up to take a call.
Still, it looks pretty awesome, and you could always use it to eat a TV dinner – if you still own a TV that is. The delivery date for this Kickstarter project (which has already been funded five times over) is estimated for December, so you could even buy one for that special person in your life who has been banging on about a standing desk all year. This’ll shut them up.
