After Apple was awarded two prestigious D&AD (British Design & Art Direction) awards, Jony Ive and the rest of the Cupertino company’s design team flew to London this week to pick them up. There were 16 Apple employees in attendance, and Ive, who is responsible for Apple’s most iconic designs, received a standing ovation when he took to the stage.
The Evening Standard reports that Apple was named the most awarded brand, and the best design studio of the last 50 years. To celebrate, Ive took his whole design team to London to collect them.
It’s rare to see Apple attending ceremonies like this, because the company has traditionally shunned public appearances over the years. But with Tim Cook now at the helm of the company, things are done a little differently, and its attitude towards this type of thing appears to be changing.
As noted by The Next Web, Apple’s attendance at this event — particularly so close to the iPhone 5 launch — is a testament to the gravity of these particular awards.
