Question: How many iPhone owners does it take to change a lightbulb(‘s color)?
Answer: One. As long as he has installed the LIFX app, and bought the LIFX remote-controlled lightbulb.
The LIFX packs LEDs and a Wi-Fi access point into its pear-shaped body, and that simple combination makes it pretty awesome. Screw it in and you’re off. The app can control the bulbs individually or in groups, and you can pick the color (RGB LEDs inside will mix any hue), switch them on or off and dim them. You can have them dim and switch off on a timer (for going to sleep) and you can even have them flash a colored alert when you get, say, a Twitter @reply.
Now, I know what you’re asking. How much for this amazing, futuristic bit of tech? It’s bad(-ish) news: A single LIFX will cost you $70, but I figure that if the Kickstarter project really takes off, then they will eventually come down in price.
Still, they’ll last you up to 25 years. Lets just hope that Wi-Fi is still a thing in 2037.
