This morning Samsung announced their newest high-end Android phone, the Samsung Galaxy S III. With a release date of May 29th, the new phone comes with a lot of crazy new features, like Smart Stay, that uses facial recognition to determine if you’re looking at it, and if not, it’ll turn the screen off. But topping the list of awesome new features is the “innovative” voice recognition feature. It’s innovative because you can say things like, “Hi Mr. Galaxy phone, what’s the weather gonna be like today?” and S Voice will pop-up a screen that looks exactly like Apple’s Siri feature does on the iPhone 4S.
Keep it up Samsung.

And they wonder why Apple sues them regularly? Wow – Samsung shows their originality.
And they wonder why Apple sues them regularly? Wow – Samsung shows their originality.
And yet Siri is still more classy, and far more “Human” like.
I can see Apple suing Samsung for another copycat infringement.
I smell another lawsuit!
Err, can this be more blatant? And why they showed ‘I didn’t catch that. Please try again.’ in the screenshot is beyond me. Maybe they want to set the expectation cautiously so user would expect it to NOT recognize their voice the first time around?
Common Samsung .. even that Mic icon looks the same. I’m really getting turned off by Samsung. I mean, where is the innovation? A company should have their own foot prints, their own path, their own character…. wooow … how disappointing
Screenshot fail “I didn’t catch that” they COULD have used a more positive one like “sure, here you are master” lol
So how much did they copy anyways, besides weather? Does it do knock-knock jokes too?
Can I smell LAWSUIT….?
Samsung should change its name to CopyCat.
2006
2010 Apple’s iPad.
Just because something is not groundbreaking or new for that matter doesn’t mean it can’t be useful, innovative or good.
HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAhahahahaha!!!
Samsung, you are an embarrassing snore-fest.
Wow, they may have a screen that even out does the 4S, but if they are still creating an ugly UI like that why bother?
I like how Fandroids all said Siri was a useless gimmick and now they are acting like S Voice is a groundbreaking and original feature
OMG, we just got samsunged
SAMeSUNG
@michael. Patent that, because its going to be money
Not that intellectual property or copyright seems to mean all that much in Asia. Engineers may or may not get axed for lack of originality… but the frakin’ LAWYERS have some SERIOUS job security.
Bro’, pentile is ugly.
Why would I ever support a copy company like Samsung? No innovation in their products, just ideas from other, more successful platforms.
i think they showed ‘I didn’t catch that. please try again’ because it looks a lot like Siri’s ‘sorry I didn’t catch that’
This is just pathetic. The tired old argument that Samsung innovate has just gone out the window. I’m glad those fandroids enjoy the second rate rubbished being pumped out by Samsung. They deserve one another. Idiots, they must think everyone is stupid, like their users.
Wow- having not shame dignity hardcore, very very sad-
I don’t care who copied who. All I care about is if it can read my incoming emails and open apps. Also turn on wifi or Bluetooth. Siri can’t. Can SVoice? If not, then they both suck.
But it is useless. At Least to me it is. I need Siri to open apps and toggle wifi and bluetooth on and off. Also to read incoming emails when I’m driving. It can’t do any of it, so 99% of the time I forget it’s there.
Yet SVoice allows you to do more than Siri. You can take a picture, open applications and even unlock the phone using your voice. None of which Siri can do.
Samsung may not innovate when it comes to software, but take apart an iPhone and tell me who makes most of the parts. Who makes the A5 processor for example?
How do you know Galaxy S phones are second rate rubbish? Did you own one and weren’t happy?
Who’s going to open “iOS5 groundbreaking Notification system looks EXACTLY like Android”?
Why? Samsung is only doing what Apple did before. Take someone else’s idea and make it better.
The “pinch to zoom” gesture. Stolen idea from Apple. The GUI, stolen idea from Apple. All iOS 5 updates, a straight up copy from Android.
They all do it. No thought is your own.
just a heads up fanboys android has had voice functions since 08 just like siri… not as robust but still had some ability like setting reminders and alarms.. oh and what about the notification bar apple so clearly ripped off?
This article is ridiculous, android has had voice assistant programs for years before apple bought out Siri and claimed to have invented it.
I also see that the article failed to mention all the things s-voice can do that siri can’t such as actually reading out the forecast, open applications, activating the program through a keyword and searching businesses outside the US.
Samsung did not copy anything. . to be frank, iphone copied siri. because siri is available in android market long back. later on it is purchased by apple. hence it is now not available for android. and remember one thing, siri like apps are available in android market since 2009. so finally apple is the copycat.
