Autodesk makes industry-leading software for animators, architects and industrial designers, so maybe the fact their Pixlr-o-matic app is a stunning, gasp-worthy photo-effects tool for the iPhone (and iPad) shouldn’t be surprising; what is a surprise, though, is that it’s free.
And yes, as you’ve probably guessed, it’s a freemium app. But there’re so many creative and sharing options crammed into the the free section you may not bother with the premium effects; in fact, many of the 57 different free filters and look better than much of the stuff you’d pay for.
Autodesk threw in the ability to share with practically any platform and save original-size files to your iDevice’s photo library and then wrapped everything in a beautiful UI (just ignore the fact they used an impossible-to-read typeface that looks like a doctor’s chicken scrawl).
the extra effect sets are a buck a pop, or get all of them — there are over a dozen sets, and they keep adding more — for $3, which includes all future sets.
