OS X Lion to Hit UK Mac App Store at 1AM Tonight?

By

lion

For some time, we’ve heard that Mac OS X 10.7 would arrive Thursday, now comes a report the UK may be the first to hear the ‘Lion’ roar. The Cupertino, Calif. company will release its new version of the Mac operating system on the UK Mac App Store at 1 am, according to a report citing “a close contact at Apple.”

“We’ve just received information from a close contact at Apple that Lion will be arriving at about 1am tonight (UK time),” according to the “Speak Apple” blog. The site contends today’s announcement of iTunes Connect maintenance is due to last-minute preparations before Lion’s release.

Apple has already released a number of beta versions of Lion and said the new OS styled after its iOS mobile software would be released this month.

As an American, I would just like to say:
The United Kingdom! The most polite society! The most pleasant country!

I am glad the UK is going to get the first bite of Lion; God bless our British friends….

  2. Taylor Paul says:

First it was going to be released on July 7. Then rumor said July 13. And now July 14. It is going to come out when it comes out. People have been wrong over and over again

  3. Shipeep says:

Hopefully this rumour will be the one that turns out to be true. I don’t think I’ll be waiting up for it but I’ll be sure to format my MacBook tonight and get everything ready for tomorrow morning.

  4. IvannaNuke says:

I think I shall be waiting up for this one.

  5. joewaylo says:

<- Waiting for the Mac Mini 4 rumored. Better hardware would be better stability

@google-b4760b18e8562da77df4a90d1361739f:disqus  The feelings mutual. We love you Americans too! Without you Apple wouldn’t exist :D

Anyway, I hope the rumour is true … i’ll now have to wait up and see, even though I’ve got an early start tomorrow :S

Interesting that Apple would launch in different countries according to time zone but who knows. Traditionally Apple has released products according to their own PDT time zone.

Its being released on the 20th, dont stay up!

  9. Chris Brunner says:

A digital-only release evens the playing field for the rest of the world. But it also means that I will be up all night refreshing the App Store, which I am more than happy to do. Getting a new OS or a new computer makes me feel like a little kid on Christmas morning.

Praying that this one’s true… it would be amazing to have it here in the UK first for once (not to disrespect our American cousins of course). Having said that, I think it’s probably unlikely that this will happen. 1AM is an odd time for an Apple announcement – we normally get them at about 6PM here.

  11. Jaap Steensma says:

What do  you mean you are going to format your macbook? Are there any recommendations concerning a software update? Onyx..?

  12. Soho22 says:

No we don’t. Nobody here does. Still, go Apple.

  13. Shipeep says:

It’s not essential to format, it’s just my decision. I’ve not formatted for a while so I’m going to make sure I have a clean Snow Leopard install ready to download and install Lion. It’s just a bit of ‘spring cleaning’…

  14. AlejoD says:

Good i hope that , But they will see it at 1:00 Am  and here in argentina we will se it tonight at 20:00 pm?

  15. Jim Carpenter says:

Oops.  Sorry! It won’t be until 7/21

  16. Joe Ayres says:

    My sentiments exactly

  17. axet says:

my point is lion will be released in 1 week affer app call. (21 July)

  18. martinberoiz says:

I’m actually more excited to see the new features of iOS 5, how much more do we have to wait for it?

  19. Tom Reynolds says:

As an iOS developer running iOS 5 beta 3 (be jealous!) I have to say that its a little disappointing. There’s reminders which I rarely use and notifications which seem to be just less annoying than before. iMessage is the same as sending an SMS, only free, but Newsstand (which doesn’t work on the beta) is what I’m looking forward to.

  20. martinberoiz says:

But you forget about sync with iCloud and OTA updates. Those are the ones I’m waiting for and also the ones you mentioned. I don’t want to plug my ipod to iTunes anymore.

  21. TVPaulD says:

You’re going to format your MacBook ready to install based on a rumour? Isn’t that a bit presumptuous? Won’t it be massively inconvenient for you if it doesn’t come out tonight?

  22. Freeman Roberts says:

i hope this is the right release date

  23. Shipeep says:

Well, to be honest, whether it comes out tomorrow or in a couple of weeks I’ll still have a fresh install that I’m happy with. I’ve been meaning to format for a while now so it doesn’t really make any difference whether I do it 5 hours before Lion is released or 5 days :)

  24. Shipeep says:

It’s supposedly September when iOS 5 is released. I’m looking forward to the new features but also iCloud.

  25. Howie Isaacks says:

I was hoping for a weekend release, but tomorrow is fine :)

  26. AlejoD says:

    Let`s wait 4 hours more

  27. TVPaulD says:

Fair enough, makes sense if you’ve been planning it anyway :)

  28. James Beer says:

I cannot stay up past my bed time for this, too tired. It will be like unwrapping a nice birthday present in the morning though so a good reason to get up :)

  29. KaPOWitsCHRIS says:

In the middle of summer haha

  30. Robin Hunter says:

Lots of Apple software updates coming through – iMovie, iPhoto, iDVD, Aperture etc so looks like they’re getting it all ready.

  31. Jonny Woodhead says:

Must admit I’m staying up just to see if this is true… I’m going to (how to put this…) ‘slightly annoyed’ If it’s not out at 1am here in the UK ;)

  32. Darfuria says:

    Well, it’s 1am… :3

  33. Graham Ward says:

    It’s 1:00am.  And we’re still waiting.

  34. James Batten says:

Looks like we might have to wait a little longer

  35. David Asch says:

Unlike me*, the Lion sleeps tonight, it seems.

    *pure coincidence.

  36. enzoamata says:

    Start getting annoyed…

  37. jfc123 says:

So… is it out in the UK???

  38. James Batten says:

no, at least as far as I can gather.

  39. Daniel Hale says:

    01:21
    ..nothing

  40. Rich Fenton says:

    Epic FAIL

  41. SpicedOut65 says:

    No show so far…..

  42. kavok says:

Actually 1am makes perfect sense.  In the past, OS X updates have been sold in the evening at their retail stores in the US, usually around 7pm Cupertino time.  They did this to sync it with the shipped copies where deliveries ended around 7pm.  Count forward and you get 1am in the UK.  I’m hoping that means the US will see the update on the App Store at the same time, since they don’t have to worry about physical boxes and discs to ship.

  43. Russell Poulter says:

    FAIL.

  44. Kyle Hotchkiss says:

Looks like cult of mac should have treated this more of a rumor than a fact.

  45. kavok says:

Well it’s 1:09 am in the UK and when I try to get on the App Store here in the US Cupertino time, it says it’s temporarily unavailable… So…. Lion soon?? :D

Update: It’s only the “Featured” tab that is unavailable. Updates, purchased, etc. are all still available.

  46. heeloliver says:

yeah, it’s says its ‘unavailable’, so my best guess is lion! hopefully soon, my dad is still home so we can both get it :D

  47. imajoebob says:

It’s 4AM (BDT). Do you know where your Lion is?

  48. Danny Nogueira says:

I’m sorry but why would apple launch in the UK first… that’s like Nintendo launching anything in the U.S. first…simply doesn’t happen.

  49. David Knight says:

thought it was too good to be true.  Im in the UK its 07:32 and no Lion is visible.  I also a few weeks ago asked apple to notify me when Lion was going to be released.  I have had no emails from Apple telling me its on its way :(
