There are a lot of perks that come with jailbreaking your iPhone 4, and this latest tweak is one of the coolest things we’ve seen in a while. RecognizeMe is a jailbreak tweak that allows user of the iPhone 4 to unlock their devices via a facial scan.
While the $7 price point is a bit steep for a small tweak, the feature is pretty cool, if not futuristic. RecognizeMe does take 5-15 seconds to recognize your face and unlock the iPhone, so if you’re impatient this tweak is more of a cool trick to show off to friends rather than something you’ll want to use everyday. Engadget’s experiments with the app also showed that the facial recognition capabilities need to be improved as other user’s faces were able to unlock their phone. Regardless of the downsides, RecognizeMe is pretty awesome and you might want consider picking it up if you have a jailbroken iPhone 4.

According to Engadget, the app unlocks for anyone unless you jack the threshold up to 98-100% and then it doesn’t unlock for anyone.
In other words, big promise, zero delivery.
How is this “awesome”? It’s garbage. It’s slow, unreliable, and has a built in security hole even though it’s intended purpose is to “secure your phone.” It actually makes your phone less secure and less easy to use.
If you like this, you probably like pretending to be a Jedi knight in your bedroom and think those Droid commercials are pretty neat also.
