Apple is preparing for a major internal reorganization ahead of COO Jeff Williams’ retirement later this year. As part of the rejig, Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services, will oversee the health and fitness team.
Meanwhile, leadership of the watchOS division will move to Craig Federighi, Apple’s head of software engineering.
Apple’s post–Jeff Williams era begins with major leadership changes
In July 2025, Apple announced that longtime executive Jeff Williams would step down from his role as COO by the end of 2025. With his retirement looming, the company is now making internal organization changes. Sabih Khan, who joined Apple in 1995, will take over Williams’ duties.
Bloomberg reported Thursday that Eddy Cue will head up Apple’s health and fitness team. The move comes as the company prepares to launch a paid Health+ subscription service. It reportedly will feature an AI-powered assistant and provide users with personalized nutrition, exercise and sleep recommendations.
The reorg will streamline the management of two closely related working units within Apple.
“The health and fitness groups, managed by Sumbul Desai and Jay Blahnik, respectively, had long reported to Williams. Under the new structure, the teams will be consolidated under Desai, with Cue serving as her boss. Blahnik will report to Desai,” says the report.
watchOS goes to Federighi
As mentioned, Craig Federighi will oversee watchOS development going forward. He’s already in charge of the troubled Siri overhaul and visionOS development.
John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, will lead Apple Watch hardware development. COO Jeff Williams previously oversaw development of new Apple Watch models.
