Apple reportedly will increase the screen size in the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Two tipsters recently revealed mockups of the 6.9-inch version alongside the smaller models in the iPhone 16 series.
If the rumor of a larger iPhone 16 Pro Max proves true, it’ll be among the more significant changes to the iPhone design in years.
iPhone 16 Pro Max could be the largest ever
The iPhone 12 Pro Max made the jump from a 6.5-inch screen to a 6.7-inch one in 2020, and Apple stuck with that size for three generations. But 2024 might be the year it changes.
Tipster Sonny Dickson posted images Sunday on X showing mockups of all four upcoming models. These are labeled with their screen sizes, including a 6.9-inch model.

In addition, tipster Majin Bu posted images of the iPhone 16 series Monday. These are not labeled. However, the largest model appears to boast a bigger display than the others (including the apparent 6.7-inch iPhone 16 Plus).

With the Dynamic Island now on all iOS models and the Action button supposedly headed for every iPhone 16 version, Apple needs new ways to make the iPhone 16 Pro Max stand out. Giving it the largest display in the iPhone 16 lineup would certainly do that.
How likely is this?
While any supposed leak should be greeted with skepticism, there’s no reason to be especially doubtful about this one. Although we don’t expect the 2024 iOS handsets until early autumn, accurate images of Apple handsets often leak out long before the products launch — like the iPhone 11 series in May 2019. And now it’s the turn of the iPhone 16 series.
Plus, these two tipsters have been correct before. Sonny Dickson showed a collection of iPhone 13 dummy models months before that year’s launch that turned out to be quite accurate. And Majin Bu leaked that the Stage Manager multiwindow control system was coming to iPadOS 16.
We’ll know for sure whether the iPhone 16 Pro Max will move to a 6.9-inch display when Apple unveils the entire series this fall.
