The next time you open Apple Music, you should notice a new feature called Heavy Rotation at the top. The new collection behind the fiery orange, yellow and red card is yet another way Apple surfaces the tunes you play most. But unlike the others, Apple Music Heavy Rotation playlist updates daily instead of weekly.

Personally, I’d rather have the service nudge me in new directions, as with the recently added Discovery Station. And maybe it will build out further in that direction, too.

Apple Music adds Heavy Rotation playlist

While I like exploring tunes I’ve never heard before through Discovery Station, launched in August 2023, the new Heavy Rotation playlist will suit anyone who wants to keep their current favorites, new or old, on repeat.

“The tracks you can’t get enough of lately, all in one place,” Apple Music’s description notes. “Updated daily.” Put the emphasis on lately. This should be great for people who listen to tons of music and want a convenient way to go straight to their top new picks.

So Heavy Rotation’s 25-song playlist is another automated collection driven by algorithm. Others include [your name] Station, Favorites Mix, Get Up! Mix and Chill Mix. The main difference is that Heavy Rotation is updated every day rather than weekly. Your most-recent obsessions should reliably appear there.

Heavy Rotation will surface anything you’re playing a lot, whether it’s an old fave or something you recently glommed onto through your  New Music Mix, Discovery Station or some other way.

And of course you can turn to the newly updated Apple Music Replay for a broad overview of your listening habits. It just added new monthly tracking of your top genres, artists, albums and songs.

You can find your Heavy Rotation playlist in Apple Music under Listen Now > Top Picks > Heavy Rotation (for now) or Listen Now > Made for You > Heavy Rotation.
