Apple Pencil is one piece of Cupertino kit for which there are plenty of cheaper third-party alternatives. But why shop around for those often not-as-good choices when you can get the lowest price on Apple Pencil 2?

Right now you can nab one on Amazon for $79. That’s down from the regular price of $129 — $50 off! And the still-capable Apple Pencil (1st generation) is on sale for even less. See below.

Lowest price on Apple Pencil 2: $79

Apple Pencil (2nd generation), released in November 2018, is a crucial accessory for many iPad owners (particularly iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad mini). Once you get one, you might wonder how you lived without it. So to be able to get the lowest price on Apple Pencil 2 is a score.

That’s because Apple Pencil makes such a vital tool for painting, sketching, doodling, note-taking and marking up documents right on the screen. You can just tap on it to change tools, like switching from a fine-point pen to a paint brush.

The stylus offers precision for all those tasks, plus tilt and pressure sensitivity and essentially imperceptible lag. And it even attaches magnetically along its flat edge to iPad for storage, wireless pairing and charging.

Apple Pencil 2 works with iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th generation); iPad Pro 11-inch (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation); iPad Air (4th and 5th generation); and iPad mini (6th generation).

Or get Apple Pencil (1st gen) for even less

Getting the lowest price on Apple Pencil 2 is great, but if you’d like to spend even less money on a stylus nearly as capable, Apple Pencil (1st generation) is going for $69 on Amazon, down from $99. That’s a solid $30 off. It’s a great choice for iPad owners (10th gen or older).

The older Apple Pencil, released in 2015, lacks the flat edge and magnetic connection to your iPad, and charges via Lighting connector.

Another option is Apple Pencil USB-C, released last year (with charging via USB-C, of course), though it’s selling for its regular price of $79.

To help choose your Pencil, check out Apple’s compatibility information and more at apple.com/apple-pencil.

We recommend the Apple Pencil 2 if you can swing it and have a compatible iPad Pro, Air or mini.
