The new Apple Sports app for iPhone gives fans access to real-time scores, stats and more for their favorite teams across a wide range of sports leagues. The free app launched Wednesday on the App Store.

“We created Apple Sports to give sports fans what they want — an app that delivers incredibly fast access to scores and stats,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services, in a statement.

Apple Sports: A new iPhone app for sports fans

iPhone is ideal for keeping track of what’s going on in the world in real time. And that includes sports.

Users of the newly released Apple Sports application can customize their scoreboards by following their favorite teams, tournaments and leagues. Fans also can get play-by-play information, team stats, lineup details and live betting odds. Those who already specified their favorite teams in Apple News or the Apple TV app will find these already synced to the new application.

The new iPhone software lets users tap to go to the Apple TV app to watch live games from Apple and connected streaming apps.

A wide range of sports will be included. Currently, fans can use the new Apple Sports app to follow these leagues that are now in season:

  • MLS
  • NBA
  • NCAA basketball (men’s and women’s)
  • NHL
  • Bundesliga
  • LaLiga
  • Liga MX
  • Ligue 1
  • Premier League
  • Serie A

Additional leagues will become available on Apple Sports over time, including MLB, NFL, NCAAF, NWSL and WNBA for their upcoming seasons.

“Apple Sports is available for free in the App Store, and makes it easy for users to stay up to date with their favorite teams and leagues,” said Cue.

Apple Sports is ready to download beginning Wednesday in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. As noted, it is free to install and use, and is available for all iPhone models running iOS 17.2 or later. The software runs on iPad too, but it isn’t optimized for the tablet screen. So it runs in an iPhone-size window on iPads.
