A new report sheds light on the iPhone SE 4’s design and camera setup. Apple’s next budget iPhone will use a modified iPhone 14 chassis that’s slightly lighter.

Based on the current development status, Apple’s next budget iPhone is unlikely to launch before 2025.

iPhone SE 4 might sport a single rear camera

A MacRumors report says the iPhone SE 4 will mark the end of the iPhone 8-like design Apple has followed for its budget iPhone. Instead, the phone could feature an all-screen design like the iPhone 14, with the same T6 aluminum chassis. It seemingly won’t have a home button, with Apple relying on Face ID for biometric authentication.

There were rumors of Apple integrating the Touch ID sensor into the Side key on its next budget iPhone, but that does not appear to be the case.

The report claims Apple will use a single rear camera on the iPhone SE 4. It will get a bump in resolution from 12MP to 48MP, though. The single-camera setup could also explain why the iPhone SE 4 will weigh 165g — 6gms lighter than the iPhone 14 — despite using the same chassis and design. Additionally, it will help Apple keep the phone’s price in check.

Action button could come to iPhone SE 4

Two other key changes planned for the iPhone SE 4 include an Action button and USB-C port instead of Lightning. Apple has already switched its iPhone lineup to USB-C this year, so the latter is not surprising. Plus, the EU mandate, which forced the company to make this change, goes into effect in 2024.

As for the Action button, a rumor indicates the user-configurable button will come to the entire iPhone 16 lineup in 2024. So, the company adding the same to the iPhone SE 4 makes sense.

There have been a lot of conflicting reports about the iPhone SE 4’s launch. The last such report claimed Apple had put its plans to launch the device on hold for a couple of years. This report also indicates that the device is scheduled for a 2025 launch.
