Backbone updated the USB-C version of its popular game controller just in time for the iPhone 15 series, Apple’s first handsets with a USB-C port.

Like earlier versions, this wraps around an iOS or Android handset to put a collection of buttons, sticks and triggers on either side of the landscape screen.

Backbone One tweaked for USB-C iPhones

Apple is making a push for console-quality games on iPhone. Resident Evil Village recently launched for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, and Resident Evil 4 debuts in December. These were originally designed to be played with a game controller, and Capcom recommends one for the mobile versions, too.

That’s where the Backbone One USB-C comes in. Attach this to the iPhone to enjoy advanced games. That includes ones available through Apple Arcade or cloud-streaming services, too.

The original version with a Lightning connector is already quite good, imitating the design of the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controller but with a handset between the controls.

The new version of the USB-C model has some design tweaks. “Magnetic adapters allow for even better phone fit, and a reshaped D-pad enhances responsiveness, resulting in superior feel and control across multiple genres of gameplay,” promises Backbone.

To be clear, the first-generation USB-C version originally designed for Androids also works with the iPhone 15 series. It’s no longer offered, though.

Order today in two colors

The updated Backbone One USB-C is available starting Wednesday, November 8. The price is $99.99.

Buy it from: BackBone or Amazon

A Lightning version of the game controller is still available from Backbone and Amazon.

All of these options are available in standard black or PlayStation white.

There’s also a new carrying case from the accessory-maker in black or white. It fits all versions of the game controller, and cost $24.99.
