iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max owners can start playing the console-quality version of Resident Evil Village. The survival horror game hit the App Store just in time for Halloween.

It can also be played on iPads with high-end processors.

Resident Evil Village is now on iPhone 15 Pro

When unveiling the A17 processor in the two iPhone 15 Pro models, Apple touted its gaming capabilities.

The chip uses hardware-accelerated ray tracing, which is up to four times faster than software‑based ray tracing. It delivers more fluid graphics and true‑to‑life lighting. In addition, MetalFX Upscaling combines the performance of the GPU and the Neural Engine to produce high‑resolution graphics while using much less power.

To show off the capabilities, Apple revealed that several console-quality games are coming to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. The first of these is now out: Resident Evil Village.

“Experience survival horror like never before in the 8th major installment in the Resident Evil franchise — Resident Evil Village. With detailed graphics, intense first-person action and masterful storytelling, the terror has never felt more realistic,” said Capcom of its creation.

Grab a controller

The application is a port of the console game, so iPhone and iPad users aren’t missing out on features. But the developer recommends using a game controller, as that’s what the software was written for.

Both iOS and iPad OS support an array of controllers from Microsoft, Sony and third-party accessory developers.

Keyboard and mouse play are not supported.

Start playing

Resident Evil Village is available now in the App Store. It’s free to download and and limited part of the game can be played at no charge. However, in order to play the full game, an in-app purchase of $15.99 is required.

In addition, Capcom offers DLC Pack (with bonus) for an extra $9.99 and an All Access Voucher for $1.99.

Resident Evil Village can be played on an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max but no other iOS handsets, including the two standard iPhone 15 models.

It can also be enjoyed on any iPad with an M1 or M2 processors. That’s all recent iPad Air models, iPad Pro 11-inch models and iPad Pro 12.9-inch models.

And there are more console games on the way. Resident Evil 4 and Death Stranding Director’s Cut are coming to iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max later this year. Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be available in the first half of 2024.
