The classic horror game Resident Evil 4 will make its iPhone and iPad debut on December 20. It’s a demonstration of the gaming capabilities of Apple’s most powerful mobile devices.

This is one of multiple console titles being ported to Apple handsets and tablets thanks to their highly capable processors.

iPhone 15 Pro can handle Resident Evil 4

Although Mac gaming continues to lag, mobile gaming is a much bigger business than consoles and PC. But most mobile titles are far simpler than the elaborate games made for Xbox or PlayStation.

Apple seems determined to prove that its handsets can handle console-quality games. When unveiling the A17 processor in the two iPhone 15 Pro models, Apple touted its gaming capabilities. To demonstrate, the company promised that a number of graphic-intensive titles would be released for these handsets.

Resident Evil 4 is on that list. And Capcom has now given a release date, stating via X (formerly Twitter), “Resident Evil 4 launches on December 20th for iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and all iPads with the M1 chip or later!”

The official summary says:

Leon S. Kennedy tracks the president’s kidnapped daughter to a secluded European village, where there is something terribly wrong with the locals.

The original version is considered one of the best video games of all time. It won a lengthy list of awards and sold by the million.

Gamers get a preview on the App Store, and configure the software to download as soon as it is available. The iPhone/iPad version will cost $59.99. That’s the same as it is on Steam. There are also a number of other in-app purchases with prices ranging from $2.99 to $19.99.

In the mean time

Those who can’t wait more than a month for the classic game can tide themselves over with Resident Evil Village. Capcom launched this for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max in late October.

The developer recommends players use an external controller, and same is true for the upcoming game, too. Fortunately, iOS and iPadOS support a range of these from Sony, Microsoft and others.

Looking for more options? Also on the list of console titles headed for top-tier iPhones and iPads is Death Stranding Director’s Cut, coming later this year. Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be available in the first half of 2024.
