A small software update that Apple initially released only for the iPhone 15 series can now be installed by any recent iPhone. iOS 17.0.2 fixes a data-transfer problem between iPhones, and also includes other bug fixes.
iPadOS 17.0.2 is also available for tablets and takes care of some of the same bugs.
Bug for for iPhone and iPad
iOS 17.0.2 went out on the same day the iPhone 15 series launched. It dealt with a problem that prevented buyers of new iPhones from directly transferring data from their old handset during the setup process.
Last week, the patch was only for the iPhone 15 series. On Tuesday, it was released for every model that’s compatible with iOS 17.
“This update provides important bug fixes, security updates, and fixes an issue that may prevent transferring data directly from another iPhone during setup.”
It follows on the heels of last week’s iOS 17.0.1, which closed some dangerous security leaks. And iOS 17 itself arrived on September 18.
iPadOS 17.0.2 fixes some of the same problems. “This update provides important bug fixes and security updates and is recommended for all users,” says its release notes.
How to install iOS 17.0.2 and iPadOS iOS 17.0.2
iPhone and iPad users can install the new iOS and iPadOS versions directly by opening the Settings app and going to General > Software Update. Alternatively, you can update your devices by connecting them to a Mac (or to a PC running iTunes).
