Back when Fiio released its jack-of-all-trades R7 desktop hi-res audio player and amplifier in March 2023, it promised its new SP3 powered desktop speakers would follow, its first active speakers. And so they have, released earlier this month.
They could be the perfect companion for the R7 and a variety of desktop audio needs. They carry Hi-Res Audio certification and feature decent connectivity options via cable.

Fiio SP3 High Fidelity Active Desktop Speakers
The new Fiio SP3 High Fidelity Active Desktop Speakers are compact, 80-watt stereo speakers for audio from computers and sound systems alike. They could jack straight into Fiio’s robust R7 audio player or a variety of other components via RCA cables and AUX input (if you want AirPlay speakers, you might as well stick with HomePod or HomePod mini).
Fiio said the speakers’ mini-box design uses liquid metal die-casting technology for high-definition sound.
Into that cabinet each speaker packs a 3.5-inch carbon fiber woofer and 1-inch silk tweeter, providing crisp bass response and smooth treble, the company said.
And you don’t have to crank it to hear the quality, either, according to Fiio.
“With waveguide design and S-shaped inverter, the SP3 can provide solid imaging and extend the low frequency, even at a small volume,” it noted.
Built-in digital power amp and onboard controls

The speakers contain a digital power amplifier from Texas Instruments working independently over four channels — 30W each for the woofers and 10W each for the tweeters.
Using onboard controls, you can switch left and right channels, adjust bass gain and tweak the LED lighting.
