Apple TV+ announced a season two renewal for Silo, the dystopian sci-fi mystery currently streaming on the service.

The decision doesn’t come as much of a surprise: the series is a huge hit.

We’ll return to the Silo in season 2

Silo focuses on the last people on Earth. They live in a massive underground structure — shockingly, it’s known as the silo — that protects them from the toxic conditions on the planet’s surface. Slowly, they discover there’s more to their predicament than meets the eye.

And Apple TV+ promised that the mystery will continue in a second season.

“It has been enormously fulfilling to see the engrossing, atmospheric and beautifully crafted sci-fi epic Silo quickly become Apple’s number one drama series,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, in a statement. “As audiences around the world have become gripped by the mysteries and conspiracies buried within this fascinating subterranean world, viewership only continues to climb, and we are so excited for more secrets of the silo to be revealed in season two.”

As Cherniss alluded to, the sci-fi series is pulling in big audiences. Movie and TV search engine ReelGood tracks the most popular offerings on streaming, and no series outranked Silo during the week of June 1, the most recent for which data is available.

The mystery deepens

Considering there are three more episodes coming in season one, Apple TV+ has nothing specific to say about the upcoming season. But the series is based on Hugh Howey’s New York Times bestselling trilogy, so there’s plenty more story to tell.

“We cannot wait for audiences around the world to immerse themselves in the epic world we have created to bring Hugh Howey’s novels to life,” said Graham Yost, who also serves as showrunner. “Apple has believed in our vision from day one and it’s an honor to have the opportunity to dig deeper into this story and peel back the layers to our characters in the silo.”

There’s no word on when season two will premier. But season one can be enjoyed with a $6.99-per-month subscription to Apple TV+. The streaming service also includes dramas, comedies, mysteries, children’s shows, nature documentaries and much more.
