Apple has expanded iPhone’s Tap to Pay feature to businesses in Australia. This will allow them to accept payments from customers directly using their iPhones.

All kinds of businesses, irrespective of their size, can accept payments using Apple Pay and Tap to Pay.

Australia is the third country to get Tap to Pay

Apple initially announced Tap to Pay on iPhone in February 2022. The contactless payment feature was then rolled out across Apple Stores in the US in May last year. A few months later, Square added Tap to Pay on iPhone support to its system, significantly expanding its reach. It is also available to over 700,000 businesses in the region.

Besides the US and Australia, Tap to Pay on iPhone is available in Taiwan. The feature allows businesses to accept customer payments without any additional new hardware.

“Australia is a nation of entrepreneurs and innovators, and small and medium-sized businesses are at the heart of the country’s workforce, employing millions of Australians. Now, with Tap to Pay on iPhone it’s easier than ever for businesses of any size to seamlessly accept contactless payments using only their iPhone, wherever they do business,” said Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet. “The convenience of Tap to Pay on iPhone empowers Australian businesses to offer easy, secure, and private contactless payment experiences to their customers, and help them run and grow their business.”

Interestingly, Apple is not rolling out Tap to Pay across its stores in Australia. That will happen later this year.

More payment platforms will support Tap to Pay on iPhone

Westpac and Typo Payments are the first payment platforms in Australia to support the contactless payment system. Others like ANZ Worldline, Stripe, and Zeller will get on board in the coming months.

Tap to Pay works with iPhone XS or newer models. It supports all contactless debit and credit cards issued by Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.
