Swagger, the Apple TV+ series that isn’t exactly the life of basketball superstar Kevin Durant, returns for season 2 in June. The young players are getting famous and the future look bright, but a scandal might ruin all their hopes.

A trailer for the upcoming season, released Monday, shows some of what to expect in the episodes that premiere in June.

Swagger season 2 hints at jail for the young basketball hopefuls

Swagger looks into the world of youth basketball and the lives it touches. As noted, the series is loosely based on the early years of NBA superstar Durant in the sport he came to dominate.

As season two starts, life is going well for Jace Carson (played by Isaiah R. Hill) and his family. He and his teammates have been recruited into an elite high school, and they’re headed for a national championship. Then a video surfaces of Coach Warwick, the boys’ former coach, being beaten down in an alley. Evidence points to the players being involved.

This jeopardizes their attendance at the predominantly white school, and could be the end of their NBA dreams. But Ike Edwards (O’Shea Jackson Jr.) is there to help Jace through the crisis.

Also returning for season two are Shinelle Azoroh, Quvenzhané Wallis, Tristan Mack Wilds, Caleel Harris, Tessa Ferrer, James Bingham, Solomon Irama, Ozie Nzeribe, Jason Rivera, Christina Jackson and Sean Baker. Plus, Orlando Jones and Shannon Brown join the cast.

Reggie Rock Bythewood continues as creator, showrunner and director.

The drama series builds on a strong first season. It earned an 84% critics approval rating from review-aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes, and an 85% audience approval rate. The Cult of Mac review said, “Powered by strong acting, kinetic directing and a compelling storyline about life both on the court and off, Swagger scores from the jump.”
