The second season of Apple TV+’s epic space opera Foundation premieres July 14, the streaming service said Thursday.

A newly released teaser trailer gives a first look at what’s coming to the series based on Isaac Asimov’s classic novels.

Foundation season 2 starts a galactic war

The original Foundation sci-fi novels from the 1940s and 1950s were highly acclaimed and groundbreaking, influencing Star Wars and other series. They tell the story of a band of exiles struggling to save humanity during and after the fall of a Galactic Empire.

Apple TV+ is making the very first screen adaptation of the novels. Season 1 debuted in 2021, beginning the story of the fall of the Galactic Empire and the seeds of the Foundation that will bring a return of civilization.

The official preview of season 2 says:

More than a century after the season one finale, tension mounts throughout the galaxy. As the Cleons unravel, a vengeful queen plots to destroy Empire from within. Hari, Gaal and Salvor discover a colony of Mentalics with psionic abilities that threaten to alter psychohistory itself. The Foundation has entered its religious phase, promulgating the Church of Seldon throughout the Outer Reach and inciting the Second Crisis: war with Empire.

Season 2 will star the Emmy-nominated actors Jared Harris and Lee Pace from season 1, along with Lou Llobell and Leah Harvey.

The adaptation to the screen is done by David S. Goyer, who also serves as showrunner.

Coming in July

The 10-episode second season of Foundation will debut globally with one episode on Friday, July 14. This will be followed by new episodes weekly, every Friday.

Watching comes with a $6.99-per-month subscription to Apple’s streaming video service. And considering season 1 wrapped up in November 2021, now might be a good time to go back and watch those episodes again.

Obviously, the ongoing writers strike didn’t affect this production the way it has others, including Severance season 2.
