Apple could bump the screen size by nearly 0.2 inches on its 2024 iPhones. The iPhone 16 Pro could ship with an OLED display nearly 6.3 inches large.

As for the iPhone 16 Pro Max model, it could use a gigantic 6.9-inch panel. The screen sizes of Pro iPhones have remained unchanged since the 2020 iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max.

2024 Pro iPhones could be bigger than ever

The latest iPhone screen size leak comes courtesy of Display Supply Chain Consultants Ross Young. He claims Apple will bump the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max display to around “6.2x” and “6.8x” inches respectively. This increase in display size also will lead to a change in the screens’ aspect ratio. For comparison, the iPhone 14 Pro uses a 6.1-inch OLED panel. The iPhone 14 Pro Max houses a 6.7-inch display, the largest in Apple’s lineup.

Bigger display means a bigger iPhone

A larger display will force Apple to increase the phone’s proportions as well. This could affect the iPhone 16 Pro’s one-hand usability. With their current 6.7-inch display, Apple’s Pro Max iPhones are already too big for some people, and require using two hands for many uses.

(In my opinion, the company should look into making its biggest iPhone lighter. The additional heft of the Pro Max iPhones makes them difficult to use with one hand or even carry around.)

On the flip side, a larger iPhone chassis will provide extra internal room for a bigger battery and an efficient cooling system. This could enable 2024 iPhone Pros to deliver even longer battery life.

If rumors are anything to go by, Apple could rebrand the 6.9-inch device as the iPhone 16 Ultra in 2024. The new high-end iPhone could pack some exclusive features to justify its Ultra name (and, presumably, an ultra-large price tag). Rumors already suggest Apple could keep the 5x periscope zoom lens exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max this year.

What remains to be seen is if Apple will optimize iOS to better take advantage of the bigger screens on the 2024 iPhones.
