Before Apple subsidiary Beats could get the word out, a listing appeared briefly on Amazon.com Tuesday showing upgraded Beats Studio Buds+ coming out May 18.

They take the same shape as existing Beats Studio Buds, but they feature a cool new transparent design option, upgraded performance and a slightly higher price of $169.95.

Amazon has since removed the listing, which appeared with an option to preorder. But while it appeared, it showed what’s new with the upcoming Beats Studio Buds+, according to reports on it by Mac Rumors and others.

In addition to the transparent look — somewhat similar to Nothing’s earbuds — the new buds will come in black and ivory color choices. And they jack up active noise cancellation (ANC) and lengthen battery life (from the original’s 24 hours with charging case to 36 hours).

The upgraded buds will feature ANC with up to 1.6 times more power than regular Beats Studio Buds, as well as double the transparency mode capability. That’s helped by microphones tripled in size over the previous model, new vents and a more powerful processor, according to the listing.

Studio Buds+ offer one-touch pairing for Apple and Android devices, spatial audio and touch controls.

Though the short-lived Amazon listing proved tantalizing, it was not the first clue to the arrival of Beats Studio Buds+. The product first showed up in iOS 16.4 code then in an FCC filing.

The listing indicated May 18 availability with shipping a day later. We’ll have to see if a preorder option appears ahead of those dates.
