Summon Quest is action-packed-action as players battle waves of monsters and bosses to save the world. All without messing up your epic hair.

The game launched Friday for iPhone, Mac, iPad and Apple TV.

Summon Quest mixes RPG with strategy

There’s a lot of fun in “run and gun” until everyone else on the screen is dead. That’s what we get in the newest from game publisher The Label and Topia.

In Summon Quest, a rift has broken in our world, allowing hordes of monsters to escape. It’s up to players to defeat the monsters, heal the rift and save the planet.

Players use a variety of range attacks to fight. Apple Arcade classifies this as a strategy game because the selection of social attacks is constantly changing — choose widely to win fights. “Summon” is in the name because players can summon a team of magical fighters to help win big battles.

There are plenty of role-playing game elements, too. Characters level up, and so does their armor.

There are multiple regions in the game world, each with many levels. These are populated with a range of creatures and bosses to conquer.

The art sale is reminiscent of Japanese RPGs, including sculptural hair on the main character. And like typical JRPGs, there’s plenty of action but no blood.

Summon Quest can now be found in the Apple Arcade section of the App Store. It’s playable on iPhone, Mac, iPad and Apple TV.

It’s clear Apple Arcade has been a success for The Level. With this addition, it’s now published four games through the service, including What the Golf?, The_Otherside and Farmside.

All these and about 200 more are playable with a $4.99-per-month subscription to Apple’s gaming service. A family can share a subscription, and there are never irritating requests for in-app purchases or questionable loot boxes — these are banned.
