The Belkin iPhone Mount with MagSafe for Mac Desktops and Displays, despite what its lengthy product name may imply, is a simple and straightforward product that does one thing remarkably well. It mounts your iPhone to a desktop display with MagSafe.

It’s straightforward to set up; it’s easy to plop your phone on and pull it off; it’s well made and feels nice in the hand. It’s great for Continuity Camera. The Belkin iPhone Mount with… no, I’m not writing all that out again. The Belkin iPhone display thing is an easy recommendation.

Belkin iPhone Mount with MagSafe review

If you have one of Apple’s displays, you either spent a lot of money for a mediocre camera or even more money for no camera at all. You might have a USB webcam too, but for most of us, the nicest camera we have is the one we carry in our pocket: our iPhone.

The Belkin MagSafe display mount thing sits on top of your monitor. When you have a meeting coming up, stick your iPhone on and let Continuity Camera do the rest. (Or, if you want to go one step beyond, you use the great Camo app.)

If the puck bothers you when you’re not using it, simply fold it down.

One size fits all

It looks precarious, but it feels steady.

The Belkin mount doesn’t need a specially-fitted clip — it stays in place with an adjustable foot that provides tension on the display. That way, it fits on basically anything. You can even fold the foot down and sit it on top of a CRT monitor if you want to.

I was worried that because my display (the LG 24UD58-B) is curved along the top edge, unlike Apple’s squarer displays, it wouldn’t have enough lip to hold in place. Not so; it fits perfectly securely.

One also might worry that a big phone like the iPhone 14 Pro Max with a bulky case would be heavy enough to make it droop down until it falls over. I only have a 12 Pro, sans case, but I didn’t notice this happening.

Even so, taking it off, folding the foot in and putting it back on to ‘reset’ it only takes a few seconds.

Fit and finish

It’s an assuming and well-designed piece of hardware.

You can leave the Belkin mount on your display 24/7 with no problem, but if you want to, you can fold it flat and stick it in a bag. (Who goes traveling with a desktop monitor? I’ve learned not to ask such questions.)

I have no reason to take it off my display, but I catch myself holding it all the time because it feels so damn nice in my hand. The MagSafe puck is metal with smooth and slightly sparkly paint. It flips into place with a strong and confident click. The flippy foot has a firm rubbery coating.

It warms my heart that a product this simple — this single-track — has so much care, attention to detail and love put into its design. It can’t be cheap to make it this way, but I love that Belkin has.

Final thoughts

It does exactly one thing perfectly.

Nearly everyone with a Mac and a desktop display has a use for this product. Even with laptops, if you have a virtual meeting, you don’t want to use the crummy MacBook camera that’s off to the side of your desk.

Your iPhone will always be a better webcam. And the easiest way to use it is with the MagSafe iPhone Belkin Desktop Mount for Mac Display whatever.
