Amazon has discounted Apple’s 2022 MacBook Pro by $199 to $1,099. This is the same price the machine was available for during last year’s Black Friday.

Despite its dated design, the 2022 MacBook Pro packs Apple’s powerful M2 chip.

Don’t get fooled by the M2 MacBook Pro’s old design

The 13.3-inch MacBook Pro with M2 chip debuted alongside the M2 MacBook Air at WWDC22. Unlike the latter, though, Apple did not refresh its exterior design. So, it still has a relatively dated design with fairly chunky bezels surrounding its display.

The machine also lacks a dedicated HDMI, MagSafe, or SD card slot. On the plus side, it is the only MacBook in Apple’s lineup to feature a Touch Bar now.

The M2 chip powering the MacBook Pro is the laptop’s real highlight. Apple claims the new SoC packs an 18% faster CPU performance, a 35% more powerful GPU and a 40% faster Neural Engine.

All M2 MacBook Pro reviews called it a powerful laptop with an ancient design.

Thanks to the M2 chip, the 2022 MacBook Pro is capable of providing insane battery life as well. Apple claims it can provide up to 20 hours of video playback on one charge.

Save big on the 2022 MacBook Pro

With a starting price of $1,299, the M2 MacBook Pro is not a better buy than the Air. The latter packs a more modern design in a slimmer chassis. However, since the Air lacks active cooling, it is not great for sustained workloads.

With a $199 discount, the 2022 MacBook Pro’s dated design becomes much more tolerable. Ideally, you should buy the 512GB variant of the machine since it ships with a faster SSD. The storage on the entry-level MacBook Pro is up to 50% slower than its predecessor.

The 512GB M2 MacBook Pro configuration is available with a $150 discount on Amazon.
