An Apple TV+ series that turns a murder mystery into a genre-mixing comedy will soon return. Season two of the The Afterparty premieres in July.

There’s a new mystery to solve with a fresh cast of suspects, though Tiffany Haddish and some of the other stars of season one will be back.

The Afterparty season two is more murderous fun

The Afterparty was created by TV industry virtuosos Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Haddish plays a detective out to solve a murder committed by someone in a group of friends. The twist is that each episode is seen through a different suspect’s perspective and shot in a different film genre. Season one included a musical, a rom-com, a cartoon and more.

Apple promises that season two “will introduce a new case, new film genres and an expanded cast of characters.” The upcoming episodes will be set at wedding during which the groom is murdered and every guest becomes a suspect.

Returning actors include Haddish, Sam Richardson and Zoë Chao. The new collection of suspects are played by Elizabeth Perkins, Zach Woods, Paul Walter Hauser, Poppy Liu, Anna Konkle, Jack Whitehall, Vivian Wu, John Cho and Ken Jeong.

Critics praised The Afterparty season one — it earned a 90% critics approval rating on the review-aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes. It pulled an an 80% audience approval rating.

Coming to Apple TV+ in July

The 10-episode second season of The Afterparty will premiere on Apple TV+ on July 12, 2023. The first two episodes will stream that day, followed by one new episode every week. Episodes of the first season appeared on Fridays, but season two has moved to Wednesdays.

Watching will come with a $6.99-per-month subscription to Apple’s streaming service. That also includes access to Bad Sisters, a murder mystery comedy that has a 100% critics approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

And, of course, season one of The Afterparty is ready to be bingewatched now.
