The next comedy premiering on Apple TV+ is The Big Door Prize. The series tells the story of a small town that is changed forever when a mysterious machine appears in the general store, promising to reveal each resident’s true life potential.

The trailer released Wednesday gives a first real look at the show and its stars. It debuts on Apple’s streaming service on March 28.

What exactly is The Big Door Prize?

Apple TV+ comedies are never about typical people in typical situations. Ted Lasso follows a soccer coach who knows nothing about soccer. And there’s a psychologist who’s gone off the rails in Shrinking. People are trapped in a musical in Schmigadoon!.

So it’s no surprise that The Big Door Prize stars Chris O’Dowd as cheerful family man and high school teacher who must figure out who he is when the “Morpho” machine is telling everyone he knows their true potential.

He, his wife and the whole town will eventually be forced to reconcile with their unfulfilled achievements in pursuit of a better future.

Book made into an Apple TV+ comedy series

The Big Door Prize is based on M.O. Walsh’s novel of the same name. It was remade for Apple TV+ by Emmy winner David West Read (Schitt’s Creek).

In addition to O’Dowd, the series stars includes Gabrielle Dennis, Ally Maki, Josh Segarra, Damon Gupton, Crystal Fox, Djouliet Amara and Sammy Fourlas.

The 10-episode half-hour comedy — set for its premiere this month at SXSW — will debut globally with the first three episodes on Wednesday, March 29, followed by one new episode weekly every Wednesday.

Watching The Big Door Prize comes with a $6.99-per-month subscription to Apple TV+, along with the other comedies  created for Apple’s streaming service.
