Dinosaurs are extinct but the epic documentary series Prehistoric Planet certainly is not. Its second season is scheduled to stomp onto Apple TV+ in May.

Get ready for fresh episodes about Tyrannosaurus rex, one of the largest ankylosaurids and other amazing archosaurs that are gone but not forgotten.

Dinosaur documentary Prehistoric Planet roars back for season 2 in May

The well-reviewed first season of Prehistoric Planet explored the age of the dinosaurs from the oceans to the Arctic. It used the latest paleontological findings and state-of-the-art technology to portray dinosaurs and other giant reptiles that populated Earth millions of years ago.

“The award-winning first season of Prehistoric Planet brought dinosaurs back to life in a way global audiences had never seen before,” said Jay Hunt, creative director of Apple TV+ in Europe, in a statement Wednesday. “Collaborating with the brilliant Jon Favreau and our fantastic partners at the BBC, we are thrilled that viewers will once again have the opportunity to be immersed in the wonders of our world as it was 66 million years ago and to experience even more weird and wonderful creatures in season two.”

Apple is keeping its cards close to its chest about exactly what dinosaurs will star in upcoming episodes, but it called out Tarchia, one of the largest ankylosaurids. The streamer also promised a return of fan favorites like T. rex. The series will again be narrated by Sir David Attenborough.

Prehistoric Planet season two will debut globally in a five-day event on Apple TV+ that starts May 22, 2023. A new episode will appear each day.

Season one enjoys a 100% positive score on review-aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes. Critics raved about the dinosaur docuseries — and it became a big hit for Apple TV+.

You can watch the first season of Prehistoric Planet now on Apple TV+ with a $6.99-per-month subscription to the streaming service.
