1Password is among the best password managers for iOS, and it is about to get even better. Putting a pause on adding new features, 1Password developers have announced several improvements to the app’s fundamentals.
Last year, AgibleBits released 1Password 8 with a new home screen and additional customization options. Based on user feedback, the company is further improving some of these features.
1Password for iOS will soon gain some much-needed improvements
You can add custom fields to an entry in 1Password 8 but cannot change their position. This will soon change; you can drag an item to change its position inside an entry. Secondly, AgileBits is bringing back universal search. In older versions of 1Password, you could search across all items in your password vault. 1Password 8’s initial release was missing this feature, but it is now being restored.
Search results will also appear instantly when you start typing instead of you having to wait for the results to load. Additionally, the search tab will display a list of your recently searched items at the top.

What’s more, new home screen customization options are coming to the iOS app, along with the ability to open a saved address in the maps app of your choice.
Currently, you need to enter your vault’s password or Face ID to access 1Password. This will change in the future, and you can unlock the app using your device PIN code or pattern unlock. Face ID unlock is also set to receive a “lot of improvements,” though the company did not specify them.
Signing up for 1Password will become easier, too
If you have not signed up for 1Password yet, the company is making the sign-up process on the web easier for new users, with a focus on importing your existing passwords. Further, you can import passwords from the 1Password 8 app for iOS. Autofill setup instructions are also being simplified to make them easier to understand.
Some of these features are already available while others will roll out soon.
