Apple’s first retail store in India has moved closer to its opening. After years of delays, the company has started hiring retail store workers in the country.

The company has posted 12 job positions on its career page in India as it looks to fill various retail positions.

Apple’s first retail store in India could finally open this year

First spotted by Financial Times, the job listings mention Apple’s upcoming flagship store in the country. They also hint that the Cupertino giant is working on opening multiple retail stores in the country. So far, reports have only highlighted Apple opening a 22,000 sq. ft. store in Mumbai as early as March 2023.

Similar to Apple’s retail stores in other countries, the company will have a Genius Bar and “Genius” employees. They will attend to repair and technical-related customer problems. Apple has already hired for several key retail positions, including the “Lead Genius” and a senior manager.

The opening of Apple’s first retail store in India has been long delayed. The company has been trying to open its flagship store in Mumbai since 2019.

The store was first scheduled to open in September 2020, but COVID forced Apple to push back the launch to 2021. COVID hit again, and the opening was then indefinitely delayed. But it now looks like Apple is set to open its first official store in the country by March 2023.

India is an important market for Apple

India has emerged as a key market for Apple in the last few years. iPhones still account for a small percentage of the total smartphone sales in the country. However, they are often the highest-selling smartphone in the premium segment and remain a sought-after product by consumers.

India has also emerged as a key manufacturing hub for Apple. The company started making iPhone 14 in India soon after its global launch, and it has asked suppliers to move production of key devices to the country from China.
