A 15.5-inch MacBook Air is on Apple’s agenda for the first half of 2023, according to a reliable source.

This would be the first time the traditionally thin and light line of notebooks has expanded past the current 13.3-inch screen.

15-inch MacBook Air: Bigger is better

The MacBook Pro line goes up to 16 inches, but Apple has kept the Air series smaller. Part of the reason is cost – these consumer-oriented Macs are Apple’s most affordable laptops, and larger display panels add considerably to the price tag.

Nevertheless, Ross Young with Display Supply Chain Consultants says via Twitter, “Looks like the next MacBook Air will start panel production in Q1’23. 15.5″. Assuming a spring launch.”

Multiple other sources have said Apple is working on a MacBook Air with a screen about 15 inches in size. Bloomberg said the same last summer, as did Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities. Young himself got the ball rolling by mentioning the device as early as spring 2022, but his new comment has more detail about screen size than any previous one.

As the current 13-inch version runs an Apple M2 processor, the larger model probably will as well. And it’ll almost certainly have the same slim design as the smaller device, just expanded for the bigger screen.

None of the tipsters have been able to name a price for the 15-inch Air.
