A man was robbed of 300 iPhones he’d just purchased at the famous Apple store on Fifth Avenue early Monday. He walked out of the store and was soon assaulted by a pair of criminals who drove off with a bag carrying $95,000 worth of handsets.
It could be worse, though – that was just one of the three bags full of Apple merchandise the New York City man was carrying.
Muggers steal $95,000 worth of iPhones
Muggers taking iPhones isn’t unusual. Especially not in New York City. But 300 iPhones in one mugging might set some kind of record.
The crime happened about 1:45 a.m. Monday, according to NYC radio station 1010 Wins. The victim was a shopkeeper who frequently buys Apple products, then resells them in his store. This time, the purchase included hundreds of iPhone 13 units.
He reportedly left Apple Fifth Avenue, then headed for his car carrying three bags of newly purchased products. Then two men jumped out of their car and demanded that he hand over the Apple merchandise. He refused, and a fight ensued. The two criminals grabbed one of his bags and escaped.
An investigation is ongoing.
