Adobe Acrobat is great for editing PDF files, but the software costs between $13 and $20 a month for a subscription. If you work with PDFs only occasionally, paying out monthly is massive overkill.

Luckily, there are practical and feature-rich apps out there that cost very little to use. One of them is PDF Editor PDF Book Reader, which has been around for years but has been updated to work with iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 on iPhones and iPads.

PDF Editor PDF Book Reader

PDF Editor PDF Book Reader is free for a trial, with in-app purchases available, so you don’t have to buy anything you don’t need.

You can use it to mark up PDF pages, and convert text and images to PDF — both via the app’s embedded text editor.

PDF creator. With the help of the embedded text editor in the app, you can create your own PDF file, insert and align text and images, change font colors and sizes, and save and share your PDF.

PDF scanner. The app includes a paper document scanner that uses your device’s camera to scan papers and save in PDF format. It uses AI to detect the paper’s content and scans it at the highest resolution possible. With the help of this app, you’ll no longer a stand-alone scanner ever again.

Import PDFs, export and share.
You can import PDF files to the app from email, social media or websites — with an embedded PDF downloader. It’s easy to create, edit, export and share PDFs.

Text detection in images (OCR).
Thanks to OCR technology built into the app, it can detect text in images and export the texts to a PDF file (supports all languages).

PDF converter.

Convert images to PDF files directly. You can also add an edit texts and make a host of adjustments, if needed, before saving and sharing the PDF file however you like.

Respecting your privacy

The company said it considers its users’ privacy its top priority, which is comforting in this age of data breaches and identify theft.

How is your privacy safeguarded? Basically, the app collects and stores none of your personal information. It does not incorporate social media software or use email, phone or webcam features associated with smartphones and tablets.

The app’s privacy policy can be checked on the official App Store, which confirms that the app doesn’t collect any data from its users.
