When a young American scientist goes missing on the Columbia-Venezuela border, all hell breaks loose. You can get a taste of the madness and mayhem, and the intense political overtones, in the Echo 3 trailer Apple TV+ released Tuesday.

The 10-episode action series, starring Luke Evans and Michiel Huisman, debuts November 23 on Apple TV+.

Tuesday was all about new iPads and Apple TV hardware, but Apple TV+ refused to be left out. It rolled out a trailer for Echo 3, an upcoming thriller series from Academy Award winner Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty), who serves as showrunner.

True to Boal’s other work, Echo 3 looks tensely realistic and politically relevant. But, you know, with a lot of automatic weapons firing all over the place.

The series stars Evans and Huisman along with Jessica Ann Collins as the missing scientist, Apple TV+ said. Evans plays her brother, Bambi, and Huisman plays her husband, Prince.

In addition to odd names, both characters have “deep military experience and complicated pasts,” as Apple TV+ described it. Sound like the right guys to go in search of her (if you want action-packed drama with explosions, as this series clearly does).

And, true to form, much of the trailer looks like a war movie starring U.S. special operations forces. Down in South America, the characters find themselves “against the explosive backdrop of a secret war,” Apple TV+ said.

Echo 3 is based on award-winning Israeli series When Heroes Fly, created by Omri Givon, and inspired by Amir Gutfreund’s eponymous novel.

Cast and other credits

Martina Gusmán plays a political columnist named Violeta in the series. Other cast members include James Udom, Maria Del Rosario, Alejandro Furth, Juan Pablo Raba and Bradley Whitford.

Keshet Studios, the U.S. production arm of Keshet International, produces the series. Showrunner Boal also serves as a director and executive producer alongside Keshet Studios’ Peter Traugott, Jason Horwitch, Omri Givon, Eitan Mansuri, Jonathan Doweck, Mark Sourian, Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman and Karni Ziv. Executive Producer Pablo Trapero directed the pilot and three other episodes.

Air date and schedule

The series premieres with the first three episodes on Wednesday, November 23. One new episode follows each Friday.

Apple TV+ is available by subscription for $4.99 per month with a seven-day free trial. You can also get it via any tier of the Apple One subscription bundle.
